Who We Are
Blue Triangle was established in 1975 by the office bearers of YWCA to become their housing arm of the YWCA and manage their hostel properties. In 1976 we had one property and the initial resident group was young single women studying and working in Glasgow. The Association eventually split from YWCA and became its own legal identity in around 1991. Our services were limited to Glasgow up until 1992 when we began to expand into other local authority areas. During its 40 years of operation we have run community cafes, provided literacy and numeracy support, provided access to training, employment, health and housing.
Our mission is to support, accommodate and assist vulnerable people to achieve better lives.
What we do
Blue Triangle is a registered charity (SC010858) with OSCR Scottish Charity Register, a registered social landlord (under the Scottish Housing Regulator), and a registered society (under the Co-operative and Community Benefits Societies Act 2014).
Although we own properties, we are not a landlord in the traditional sense of the word, as the core of what we do, is called “supported accommodation” and we only accept referrals to our accommodation from local authorities.
We provide safe and secure mainly hostel type accommodation for vulnerable people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or have a Looked After and Accommodated background. Staff are present on site, in some cases, 24hrs, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year, and they work with service users (our clients) to help them gain the right skills to move onto more independent living and achieve a better quality of life
We currently provide 17 registered services, over 25 sites employing over 300 staff based in 9 local authority areas. In any given day we accommodate up to 297 people every night and help around 665 people over the course of a year.
Our staff are highly trained to provide specialist housing support services to enable our service users to change their lives for the better. We currently have IIP (Investors in People) Silver.
Our service users
We work with people of all ages and backgrounds and provide access to a whole range of skills such as access to learning and development, training, housing, specialist skills such as drugs and alcohol support. We work with both the statutory and voluntary sector to bring in the right skills and resources.
We work with people who are the farthest away from the job market and who other services reject or cannot work with because they have very challenging behaviour.
Our aim is that our service users achieve better lives because of their engagement with Blue Triangle.
