Somerset Place
Purpose
Somerset Place is a residential housing support project situated in an Association owned town house property located in Glasgow's west end. Since 1981 it has operated as supported accommodation for young people. The project is a partnership between Glasgow City Council and Blue Triangle and its main purpose is to prepare young people leaving care for sustainable levels of independent living.
Service User Group
The service is registered with the Care Inspectorate for a maximum of 8 persons with the focus of work being vulnerable young care leavers aged 16 – 21 years.
Accommodation and Facilities
The project has 8 bedsits, each containing an integral kitchen and en-suite shower facilities. There is also a laundry room and staff offices.
Support Provision
On moving into the accommodation, each service user is allocated a Key Worker whose role is to assess, coordinate and review the housing support service provided. This involves regular weekly key work meetings, 6 weekly reviews and providing a link with other professionals.
In addition to the key work service the project also has regular service user meetings to discuss pertinent issues relating to the accommodation and support.
Moving On
Service users usually move on from the project to other temporary accommodation as part of their transition .
Staffing
The project is staffed 24/7 with a team consisting of Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Project Workers and Cleaner.
Referral Route
All service users are referred to the project by Glasgow City Council’s Resource Priority Group within Social Work Services.
